Karen Fingar Named Dudley Principal

Karen Fingar, who has been assistant principal at Fairport’s Dudley School since 2006, has been selected as principal. She replaces Jennifer Rurak who is moving from the area.

As assistant principal at Dudley, she has been not only a respected administrative leader but also an instructional leader emphasizing early literacy.

Prior to coming to Fairport two years ago, Karen had nearly 19 years of experience in education. Most of those years were in the Honeoye School District where she taught elementary health and was an instructional support team leader. She completed her administrative internship as the director of grants and special programs in Bloomfield.

Throughout her career, Karen has shown a strong commitment to the growth and development of the individual child. This can be seen in her work on district planning for student support and intervention and her earlier work on health and wellness and in her role as a trainer in bullyproofing schools. Superintendent Jon Hunter noted that her understanding of the developmental needs of children in the early grades and her communication with staff and parents will continue to serve the Dudley population well.

Karen earned her bachelor’s degree in health education at SUNY Cortland and her master’s at SUNY Brockport. She completed her administrative certification at the University of Rochester, where she recently received her doctorate in educational leadership.

Karen and her husband Barry have two sons, Aaron, who will be a college sophomore, and Adam, who will be a junior at Canandaigua High School. They live in Canandaigua where they enjoy spending time together as a family and are very active in the Canandaigua sports programs.

Upon her appointment, Karen said that she was thrilled to be named principal of Dudley and looks forward to continuing the important work of balanced literacy and early intervention with young children.
